A COACH'S GRACE
by Dr. Jeannie Campanelli

If you have tracked the phenomenal success of such books as James Redfield's Celestine Prophecy and television shows such as Oprah, you get an idea of how many people are interested in spirituality and personal growth. Scores of formerly dormant thinkers are now attempting to wake up to the potential inherent in doing something special and meaningful with the rest of their lives. Contrary to the traditional pattern of simply focusing on what they "should" do, such candidates for improvment are examining their lives, careers, relationship, finances, lifestyle, and spirituality (defined as the connection to one's inner self and to others). In such a diverse group, the overarching sentiment is simply: "There has got to be a better way."

There is.

However, not everyone is clear about the particular meaning this holds for them. What is it that they want? How can they make it happen? Fortunately, post-industrialist society has ushered in more free time and resources for people to invest in their personal growth. There is now the commitment among a thoughtful minority to maximize the quality of their lives, as evident in the tremendous growth of the holistic movement.

A personal coach, essentially, does what an athletic coach does, but from a whole-life point of view. The space is provided on a weekly basis to examine what winning at life uniquely means to you. The coach/client partnership provides full support for you to accomplish what you want out of your life in an even bigger way than you may have previously imagined. The grace of a coach and the synergy that is produced from your relationship can hold you in a place of possibility, accountability and clarity - so that you actually live up to your full potential.

It is easy to fall into the trap of over-exerting yourself to get more out of life. Putting in long hours, enduring self-imposed stress, relying on themselves to make the "more" happen, are all too common. The price paid by some for this is significant. It can result in poor health, insufficient time for fun and relaxation, or the alienation of those closest to you. Athletes and performers know this trap and accept that they need someone who is trained to help them discover what they need and desire - someone to set goals, and to help them go after such goals in order to reach personal excellence and fulfillment. A coach can help a client find their passion - one that may not have been stirred for years. Furthermore, a coach can help keep that passion alive.

A coach can help a client find their passion, one that may not have been stirred for years. More importantly, they can help keep that passion alive.

Dan Millman wrote in The Peaceful Warrior,

Life is no 'brief candle' to me; it is a sort of splendid torch which I have got hold of for the moment and I want to make it burn as brightly as possible..

What is your next level? What would be a better way for you? Will you be graced by a coach?
