Hi everyone!

When exploring the topic for this month’s note on claiming your life as your own, I thought of the summer months in which there is a greater possibility for free time - the time to simply ‘be’ and enter the silence. A do-nothing day at the beach. A walk in nature. Relaxing on a lounge chair in the backyard after just waking up from an afternoon nap. A park bench where we can rest and take in our surroundings. It’s all there for us, if we so choose.

There is no possibility that we will waste time; a conditioned thought that might pop up as the mind likes results. Time spent in the silence, listening to the voice within, is actually rich with possibility.

I invite you to carve lots of spaces in time during August for this to happen as a special gift to yourself. And here is why....

Entering the Silence to Inner Confidence

What is a powerful way to nurture inner confidence - the sense of wholeness, freshness, and full aliveness that naturally comes forth when we are present to the moment we are in?

Silence.

When we take the time to rest in silence, we touch into our natural state that gently arises in this fertile soil. In the silence, we understand the value of simply being without having to ‘do’ each and every minute. Instead, we rest into stillness, peace, and spaciousness. From that which is aware, we have compassion toward whatever arises - body tension, the rich range of feelings that are part of being human, and thoughts that dance from one to the other. We gently fall back into ourselves.

With this welcoming embrace, the body relaxes all on its own. Habitual thoughts or belief patterns melt away. The heart softens and expands so that love can flow. We feel connected to ourselves and to others. We listen in this silence, and clarity blossoms.

The beginning stages of resting in the silence can be ripe with resistance. It’s all part of the process. After a time of much doing, returning to my meditation pillow to sit in silence has its challenges. I can feel restless, anxious, ready to do anything but simply sit. Once I give myself permission to feel this, too, and be with whatever is rising, including the discomfort of certain feelings that I’ve been avoiding, the seeds of acceptance within the silence envelope me. I let go of control. The experience of opening and deepening into peace, love, and true beauty emerges in the space beyond time.

From the silence, connected to the core of us, our natural gifts can flow through us to others with ease. In the silence, we may become clear around the next action step that is calling, leading us to act with a natural, inner confidence. The tilling of the soil has taken place.

Give yourself the time to simply 'be' in the silence this August. Sit with your spine straight and tall. Be with whatever arises by stretching into any tension or ache as well as any feeling that arises from a thought or memory. Embrace it all. Breathe. The body will naturally relax according to its own rhythm. Allow yourself to enjoy this time of connection with your true nature.

In the spirit of being complete and not finished,

With love,

Jeannie
