Hi everyone!

These are busy times for all of us in which there is a strong push to ‘do’...and then do some more. If you are like most people I observe, you are busily keeping up with your life and the many required to-do’s that can make up a day.

The intention of this article is to inspire you to explore - honestly and deeply - where you are focusing your energy. How conscious are your choices? How do you avoid feeling like you’re on automatic pilot? In other words, do you listen to your heart?

Your Heart is Talking...Are You Listening?

The commitment to listen to the voice of your heart is a radical act. Sometimes it gives you information that you'd rather ignore because there's a part of you that wants something different. Sometimes it requires a lot of courage to follow through on its message. Sometimes it can lead you into the unknown. And, sometimes, your heart leads you straight to joy.

Most of us know what it's like to ignore what our heart tells us. We may override the voice of our hearts for a myriad of reasons:

  • the mind has many seemingly 'reasonable' arguments countering its message;
  • we would rather be approved of, included, and/or liked;
  • we don't want to hurt anyone;
  • it is hard to say no - an old habit of ours;
  • it is too scary to jump into the unknown where our heart may lead us;
  • we may simply be disconnected from our hearts, a result of years of avoiding or at least trying to avoid feeling what’s there.

What I know is that when I am aware of my heart’s message and consciously choose to not listen, there is a sense of regret and self-betrayal - an in-the-body knowing that I am out of integrity. Even though it might feel safe and familiar, it simply doesn't feel right at a deeper level.

I assume that all of us know what it's like to listen to our heart, too. How would we know how to do this if we didn't experience NOT listening?

When I'm listening, I feel energized. I am in my body - aware and open. This window of the heart leads into spaciousness/presence/stillness, and it is from this natural state where flow happens. When I rest into that which is aware through the window of the heart, I feel a sense of wholeness. I let go. I dance with my own life.

How do you know when you are listening to your heart? What impact does it have on your life when you tune into yourself in this way? What is different about your choices when your heart’s message is key to what you choose?

Experiment. When a decision is asked of you, place your hand on your heart. Say each choice out loud. Does your heart expand or contract? Then listen to what your heart is telling you.

Simply notice what it's like to follow your heart's lead. Feel gratitude for this wonderful compass that lives within your body, guiding you toward new and expansive pathways.

In the spirit of being complete and not finished,

With love,
Jeannie
