Hi everyone!

Welcome to new readers, and welcome back to those of you who meet each month in this place - in this moment - reading what has been written for you.

My invitation is for you to take the time to be aware of your breath, settle in, and digest this note on claiming your life as your own. From an open and alert place, trust that you will intuitively know the message that is yours to receive.

It may sound like a paradox - being ‘in need’ of support to claim your own life or  ‘leaning on’ others in order to stand on one’s own - and life is about paradoxes. What I observe and have experienced is that opening to the support that is there for us allows us to move forward with an ease and grace that might not have been present otherwise. The foundation of life is all about love.

Below is my dear friend and colleague, Marcia Dorfman at www.oneononecoaching.com, a wonderful source of support for me through the years, who I honor in this issue.

The Power of Support

When we are in the process of transition, particularly a major transition, there often arises an opportunity to claim our own lives at another level. It’s during these times of change that we get to honestly look at all the areas in our lives that aren’t working for us. We get to explore what we truly want, to set new boundaries, and to accept even more accountability for our lives. This requires courage.

To have loving, affirming, empowering support during the scary times when we are stepping into the unknown is invaluable. I’ve noticed in my own life that during challenging times, I had just the right people show up and either reach out to me or I reached out to them because I recognized that I needed what they could give. Life/Love simply works that way, especially when we are alert, awake and open to see and receive what’s there for us.

I remember when I was at a bank machine and unable to get into any of my accounts, realizing that I literally had only $15 to my name (the bit of cash that had already been in my purse) due to the financial fall-out of leaving my marriage. In moving forward step-by-step from that trauma, I clearly saw that I was surrounded by and needed the kind and generous support of family, friends, and professionals. The ‘needing’ part wasn’t easy for someone who liked to be the giver (the way I got into that mess in the first place). Yet, that time of rebuilding was a wonderful lesson in receiving - humbly, gratefully, openly, and magically. With support, I courageously learned to trust life.

What level of support do you have? Not just for the challenging times, but day-to-day? Do you take the time to listen to your heart’s needs? How often do you let people know what you need?  How often are you alert and aware of what’s truly there for you?

It can be very difficult to see the big picture of our own lives as we live inside a box - points of view that can be very narrow. All of us, at times, need to lean on someone in order to move forward. Gathering honest and loving people around us can take us through any challenge, and there are many, many other benefits to reaching out.  Support teaches us humility as we receive from others what we are not in a place to give to ourselves in that moment. We experience compassion. We expand how we see the world. And, at best, we pay forward to others the gifts that we have received, particularly our wisdom.

Then in the circle of life, all is as it should be. The dips, the highs, the light, the darkness, the fears, the learning involved in being human - ALL is part of the Big Love.

Let yourself rest into the following words: “I gather around me the support I need to take the next step into the unknown. With each step, I receive. I tap into my courage. I allow my heart to lead the way. I move…forward and forward and forward….with grace and love….one step at a time.”

Consider implementing this practice during the month of August: take a moment to reflect on what you need and speak that need to someone close to you - openly, honestly, and vulnerably. Ask for support, even if it is simply listening to yourself expressing your needs. Notice what develops for you.
