What's the Weather in Your Neck of the Woods?

Notice how often we talk about the weather and the degree to which it can influence our lives. It can be too cold, hot, dry or rainy - a full range of temperatures and sunshine depending on the day, or even the hour, and where we live. The wind, snow and ice influence how and where we drive our vehicles. The weather not only can dictate what we do, it also can be the deciding factor as to what clothes we choose to wear as well as what is our current mood.

Using the weather as a metaphor, I often ask coaching questions like, "What's your internal weather like?" or "What's the weather like in your relationship?" Clients get where they're at at a body level, with few words that say a lot. From there, the dialogue, learning and dance between us takes off in the direction it needs to go.

Speaking from the wisdom that is within all of us, a client shared: "I think I am beginning to understand the concept of internal weather and not being affected as much by things happening around me. " What a significant shift in perspective. The impact of this perspective has the possibility of shifting the quality of her life as she claims it at another level.

I take the time to learn the tools that support me in fully taking responsibility for my inner weather and the weather in my relationships. I know that I can stay in touch with my center in the midst of any storm. I trust myself and life.
